AirMatrix launches Libra AI platform to protect Canadian airspace.
4th July 2025, Toronto – Government of Canada is working to secure its national airspace with the collaboration of AirMatrix that has developed Libra an AI to identify and mitigate real time air threats. The Government of Canada helped to enable the Libra platform through its Innovative Solutions Canada (ISC) program. Libra is a significant step toward delivering what AirMatrix calls Sovereignty as a Service, a new method of airspace management as we enter a new world of drones.
Canada’s airspace is increasingly at risk. In 2023, there were over 1100 drone incident reports, some near critical infrastructure and important military areas. These kinds of drone incidents raise concerns for national security, civil aviation, and infrastructure safety. Libra deals with this challenge by integrating several sources of data into a single command dashboard including radar and Remote ID capabilities. The platform is AI powered to recognize aerial objects, calculate their flight paths, and reduce response time by 70%.
Libra is not just about the data collection, it is about decision making in real time with operators’ situational awareness allowing them to make decisions in just seconds.
“Libra is designed to help operators track and react to threats faster than ever before,” said Bashir Khan, Co-founder and CEO of AirMatrix. “We’re not just a software provider, we’re a sovereign system benefits. Libra enables countries to really take control of their skies.”
In addition, Libra, automates command video chains, informs decision-makers with the capability to act quickly, and validates every action with real-time data. This is not a standard SaaS offering, it is built for intervention, not service.
Its modular and scaled architecture allows for easy integration by military and civilian agencies into their current systems, meaning Libra is not just a Canadian asset but a potentially global standard for airspace security. “Today’s sovereignty isn’t just about land or borders it’s about digital sovereignty too,” added Khan. “Libra acknowledges this evolution.” With the use of Libra, Canada is now among countries redefining defense through AI and autonomous intelligence. The integration with Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada demonstrates how Canadian technology can advance national defense – making it smarter, faster, and more secure than ever.
