Google’s AI Is About to Turn The Wizard of Oz Into a Real-Time Interactive Experience
MOUNTAIN VIEW , CA, 9TH APRIL 2025-Google and Sphere have unveiled their strategic collaboration to fuel the forthcoming immersive experience, The Wizard of Oz at Sphere, leveraging state-of-the-art generative AI.
The announcement made public on Tuesday described how the AI infrastructure of Google Cloud such as Vertex AI and Gemini models, will enable real-time audience engagement and storytelling at unprecedented levels of personalization.
AI will be in charge when the production premieres later in the year at Sphere in Las Vegas. The goal is to blur the boundaries of a passive audience and active involvement.
The experience includes stunning visuals, spatial audio, and fully responsive environments which change in real time based on audience feedback.
Google AI and Sphere technologies will work in tandem to create new dialogue and transitional scenes for each character, giving viewers varying experiences based on their responses to the performance.
“We’re using Google’s large language models to bring characters like Dorothy and the Scarecrow to life in real time,”
Explained Guy Barnett, SVP of Brand Strategy and Creative Development at Sphere.
“This isn’t just watching a show—it’s participating in it.”
With characters able to tailor responses to each audience member’s emotions, voice, and reactions, this is the first large scale production to actively deploy generative AI.
“This is the most ambitious live AI experience ever attempted,”
Said Justin KeebleManaging Director for Global Sustainability at Google Cloud.
“It’s a glimpse of where storytelling is headed—responsive, generative, and unforgettable.”
The AI system will run in the Google Cloud, enabling real-time processing of the data while upholding the highest standards of privacy.
