Samsung-UScellular Boost 5G Speeds with mmWave & vRAN Technology!
KOREA, 5th February 2025 – Samsung Electronics has just shared some exciting news! UScellular has upgraded its 5G network in the Mid-Atlantic region, and it’s all thanks to Samsung’s advanced 5G technology. They’ve set up a new network using Samsung’s mmWave technology and virtualized Radio Access Network (vRAN), which has been live since November. This upgrade is already making a big difference, giving customers faster and more reliable internet.
So, how does it work? UScellular is using Samsung’s 5G Compact Macro, which is a cool all-in-one device that combines the baseband, radio, and antenna into one compact unit. This makes it easy to install and set up. The mmWave technology works on the 28GHz and 39GHz bands, which means it can handle a lot of data traffic while delivering super-fast speeds and low latency. Because of this, UScellular is now offering multi-gigabit speeds, which is a huge step up for their 5G network.
Mike Dienhart, UScellular’s VP of Engineering and Network Operations, said, “Tapping into the ultra-high bandwidth of the mmWave spectrum allows us to unleash new capabilities and deliver cutting-edge customer experiences. Samsung’s proven expertise in innovative 5G and vRAN makes them an ideal partner.”
Samsung’s vRAN solution is also a big part of this upgrade. This indicates the seriousness of UScellular’s leadership in 5G innovation by providing them with increased bandwidth, improved energy conservation abilities as well as a fast network expansion option.
Wilf Norrlinger, Samsung’s VP of US Sales for Networks, mentioned about the partnership, “We’re extremely pleased that UScellular selected Samsung’s industry-leading mmWave and vRAN solutions as key enablers for their 5G network enhancement in this area,” further adding, “This collaboration showcases how our innovations in areas such as vRAN and mmWave are unlocking new capabilities. It’s exciting to collaborate with forward-thinking providers like UScellular and push the next-generation wireless to new frontiers.”
Samsung and UScellular have a strong history of working together, and this project is another proof of their wonderful collaboration. They’re focused on supporting UScellular’s growing customer base with advanced network setups.
Samsung is known for being a leader in 5G technology, offering everything from chipsets to AI-powered tools. Their research and development keep them at the top of the industry, helping mobile operators around the world deliver better connectivity.
Ranked fourth among American mobile operators, UScellular is well-known for its reliable network and state of the art services. The company, whose head office is based in Chicago, has a mission of ensuring that people stay connected by providing projects like the After School Access Program as well as rolling out 5G. In line with being ahead in wireless technology, Samsung is one of their partners.
