TOKYO, JAPAN, 11TH APRIL 2025-Fujitsu has introduced a digital training platform for employees of Seven-Eleven Japan, illustrating an important advancement in retail workflows.

The system will assist in digitizing the capabilities necessary for supporting store personnel as part of the chain’s strategy to modernize 21,000 stores.

The new system, based on Fujitsu’s “Employee Success Platform,” provides learners with self-service opportunities for skill acquisition, ranging from assisting with self-checkout to inventory management and deep cleaning of the store.

This comes at a time when convenience store chains have resorted to the automation of menial and repetitive tasks due to understaffed labor demands and quicker service expectations.

“We are hoping to alleviate some of the training burden and enhance the customer interaction through digital training,”

Expressed Tetsuya Yamada, Head of Store Operations at Seven-Eleven Japan.

The platform is designed to provide real-time feedback on performance and training results in a bid for managers to efficiently identify gaps. Store functions will benefit from Fujitsu’s AI-powered analytics optimizing non-stop enhancements.

“The retail sector is crying for effective skills training. While there are competing claims, we are putting our efforts into the juvenile resources for that purpose,”

Remarked Nobuhiro Suzuki, Digital Workplace Vice President at Fujitsu.

Notable is that Seven-Eleven Japan has set a goal of full-scale integration of the system into all stores by mid-2025, focusing on both new hires and existing staff.

The program also aims at facilitating active learning through customized modules designed for in-store and mobile devices, enabling employees to utilize downtimes such as during quiet hours and between shifts.

The initiative is part of the digital transformation of frontline staff functions to remain competitive in the changing retail landscape in Japan.

Regulators and industry analysts believe that this is an indication of the direction in which international convenience store services may be heading.
